The
animals in work are often composite creatures, combining
different body parts or elements of nature. These properties
are not meant to be symbols, but are expressions of the
spiritual characteristics of the animal in question.
The dog Apuleius, for instance, is in a position between
sitting and standing. She guards the area in which she
is placed, constantly at attention, the lethal tail ready
to strike. At the same time she is a mother animal, with
breasts full of milk, which is able to give.

This
duality gives the dog an undetermined personality. When
I look at the dog, her indefinite nature has the effect
of engaging me in an intuitive dialogue, and of arousing
my empathy.
The unconscious intuitive extension of what the viewer
perceives is something I strive for in the entirety
of my work.
